If you are a cisgender person and when you read this article, you may have many doubts. Yes, it’s real. Transgender people do not necessarily need cisgender people to find love. In the past one year, I heard of many news about transgender people do not want to date cisgender people. If there are people reading, you must be thinking: who says I want to date transgender people? These comments mostly come from transphobias. We can ignore them. The truth is most transgender people are pansexual, that is, their sexual orientation can be altered. Not all transgender people want to date cisgender people. I have many transgender friends who stay away from cisgender people for many reasons. Although such circumstance would cut down many risks and concerns compared with the situation of a transgender dating a cisgender, we would give some advice anyway.
Do not think you know everything about transgender’s life. Every transgender person has different life and experiences of their own. They have different degree of anxiety and even living conditions. So do not think your experience is the blue print for every transgender person. Each of us have different status. Some people might prefer to be open and honest, while the other might still be bearing with shame for their identity and prefer to remain silence.
Respect. This is simple. Just respect the pronouns they prefer to be referred to and respect the way they perceive themselves. Trans dating a transgender person when you are one yourself might be less tired and troublesome, you still need to respect your partner’s choice. Do not assume his/her choice would be the same as yours. Respect other people in the way you want to be respected. Us transgender people deserve it because we are no less than any other human-being on the earth.

After all the heart-broken and even violence, some of them finally see that people who understand them the most might only be themselves. Dating within transgender community is much less troublesome than cross-community dating, as long as everyone knows the rules for this group.
Some cis people think transgender people are high-maintenance. Actually, they are not. Due to their special identity and their experience for life, they may be a little more sensitive than other cisgender people. But generally speaking, there is not much difference between dating a cisgender person and a transgender person as long as you always hold respect in your heart. It is not at all difficult to handle them and the relationship with them. Just keep a little more patience, you will see the beauty of them.
